What is Community & Peer Support?

Hope Restoration Center's Community & Peer Support program brings adults in recovery together in facilitated group sessions led by certified peer support specialists — people who have their own lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery. This is not clinical therapy. It is something equally powerful: real human connection.

Research consistently shows that social connection and community are among the most powerful factors in long-term mental health recovery. Our peer support specialists bring both professional training and lived experience — creating a space where adults feel genuinely understood, not just supported. Your program may include:

  • Facilitated peer support group sessions
  • Certified peer support specialist leadership
  • Shared recovery stories & lived experience
  • Skills-based group workshops
  • Community connection & belonging activities
  • Goal setting & accountability support
  • Wellness & self-care education
  • Long-term wellness & accountability support
Hope Restoration Center — Community & Peer Support, Sandy Utah
"You do not have to walk this road alone. There is something uniquely healing about being in a room with people who truly understand — not because they studied it, but because they lived it."

Community & Peer Support is ideal for adults at any stage of their mental health journey — whether they are currently in another program at Hope Restoration Center, or simply looking for ongoing community connection and peer accountability to sustain their long-term wellness.

What to Expect

Step 1 — Welcome & Orientation
Your first step is a warm, low-pressure orientation with your peer support specialist. Together you will learn about how the group works, what to expect from sessions, and what you hope to gain from the program. There is no pressure to share anything you are not ready for — you set the pace entirely.
Step 2 — Joining the Peer Support Group +
Group sessions are facilitated by a certified peer support specialist in a structured, confidential format. Groups are kept small — typically 6 to 10 participants — to ensure every voice is heard. Sessions meet regularly and cover rotating themes including recovery stories, coping strategies, goal setting, and community building.
Step 3 — Sharing, Listening & Connection +
The heart of peer support is authentic connection — sharing your own experience and hearing the experiences of others who genuinely understand. Over time, group members build real relationships, offer mutual encouragement, hold each other accountable, and provide the kind of support that only lived experience can offer.
Step 4 — Skills-Based Workshops +
Alongside peer connection, group sessions include structured skills workshops covering topics such as emotional regulation, distress tolerance, self-care, wellness planning, communication, goal setting, and relapse prevention. These practical tools are drawn from evidence-based frameworks and adapted for a peer-led group format.
Step 5 — Community Building & Accountability +
As the group builds trust over time, members support each other's goals and celebrate each other's progress. Peer accountability — checking in, encouraging, and showing up for each other — is one of the most powerful drivers of long-term recovery. Your peer support specialist facilitates this community dynamic intentionally.
Step 6 — Long-Term Community & Ongoing Participation +
Community & Peer Support is designed to be ongoing. There is no fixed end date — participation can continue for as long as it is valuable. Many group members continue attending long after completing other clinical programs, finding that the community connection and peer accountability remain an essential part of their long-term wellness.
